Kent businesses are pledging their support to a team of staff members from the Kent Air Ambulance Trust, who are on a mission to raise £20,000 (twenty thousand pounds) for the charity they work for as they aim to cycle 350k across Cuba as part of the life saving charity’s 20th Anniversary.

Kent Air Ambulance Trust carried out its first life saving mission on 23rd December 1989 and on that date this year, the trust starts its year long celebrations for the 20th Anniversary. Part of the programme of anniversary events is the overseas challenge to cycle Cuba, where around 30 people will join the charity to mark its special year.

Team KAAT is made up of eight members from across the charity ranging from the events team to the pilot who flies the helicopter itself. In November 2010 they will cycle from Havana to Trinidad over five days.

Icom, the first business to pledge support, has donated £550 (five hundred and fifty pounds) to the charity. Icom supply broadband and the charity’s telephone system.

Icom Product Manager, Ian Richardson, said: “It’s great to be associated with the Kent Air Ambulance, the guys there all do such a fantastic job and that goes right through the charity, from the volunteers to the doctors and to accounts team. We’re really proud to support the charity in its 20th Anniversary year, especially for something so fantastic and challenging.”

Kent Air Ambulance Head of Charity Services, Beverley Thorne said: “We are so chuffed with the amount that has come in so far, it’s just amazing that in this tough climate there are businesses that can help so generously – we are so grateful. There’s still just under a year to go before the challenge but it is incredible how much hard work needs to go in to raising such a large sum of money. We’re having fun doing it along the way however the more pledges we get the better. We have a target of twenty thousand pounds, but wouldn’t it be nice to surpass that. ”

Team KAAT has a justgiving profile to help raise as much money as possible – please help Team KAAT with as much as you can. www.justgiving.com/teamkaatcyclecuba
