Korfball Marathon Guinness World Record™ Attempt

Kingfisher Korfball Club was founded in July 1980 by Dave Glancey. On 14th & 15th June, a squad of Kingfisher players attempted to break the Guinness World Record™ for the Longest Korfball Marathon, held by Vinken Korfball Club from the Netherlands at 26hrs 2mins. Each player had to raise money for Kingfisher’s chosen charity, Kent Air Ambulance to be eligible to compete in this attempt.

Kingfisher Korfball Club managed to play for 30hrs and 2mins, breaking the previous record by 4 hours. Well done to those involved!

“Without these people being here giving their free time this weekend, the attempt would not be happening. I would like to thank you all for your support and commitment in making this happen”. – Steve Kirby

Korfball was ‘invented’ by a Dutch school teacher in 1902. It is a ball-handling sport played by two teams of eight players, four male and four female. The pitch is divided in half, with four players of each team playing in each half of the pitch, one half attacking and the other defending. A goal can be scored from anywhere by shooting through a plastic basket fixed to the top of a post.
