Job Opportunities

Kent Air Ambulance Trust is based in Marden in central Kent. The Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance is based at Dunsfold Park on the Surrey/Sussex borders and both are no more than 7 minutes away from a major Air Ambulance receiving hospital. The charity employs 28 members of charity and operational staff.

SPECIALIST REGISTRARS PRE-HOSPITAL CARE (HEMS)

Applications are invited for the posts of PHC Registrars with Kent Air Ambulance. Initial period of appointment is for twelve months. Renewal may be considered. Three posts are available from March or April 2010 at the Kent operation in Marden. A further three posts may be available in late 2009 at the Surrey base in Dunsfold.

The Kent Air Ambulance Trust is an independent charity funded Helicopter Emergency Medical Service working in partnership with two important stakeholder organisations.

South East Coastal Ambulance Service is committed to trial the development of Critical Care Paramedics who will be seconded to the operation to work as part of the team. Successful applicants will be expected to support and encourage the development of the paramedic's training in this important step forward in critical care.

London HEMS shares the vision of Kent Air Ambulance Trust to move forward towards a nationally recognised and accredited model of HEMS operation. Selection, clinical governance, audit and Consultant on call support are provided by the London HEMS team.

Doctors from all specialties may apply, but experience in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, or critical care is essential. A higher postgraduate diploma and four years specialty postgraduate experience is also essential. Candidates may apply from recognised SpR training programmes or to work in these as stand-alone posts. Appointed doctors who are already on Specialist Registrar Rotation programmes must have the support of their local Training Programme.

Appointment to this post will not confer a National Training Number (NTN). The primary role of the doctor will be Pre-hospital Emergency Care. During daylight hours the candidate will rotate to the duty flight crew on board the Kent Air Ambulance. Initial appointment is subject to success at interview, standard checks and an operational flight suitability assessment. Before becoming operational successful candidates will undertake an intensive training period of around one month and pass an assessment by a pre-hospital consultant.

The rota is 1: 3. All appointments are subject to annual assessments and satisfactory progress in meeting educational objectives.
